SOME BACKGROUND ON MACIE & CHLOE

Macie and Chloe utilise our services for speech and physical therapy, to aid Macie with overcoming many medical issues that arose from being born as an undiagnosed breech, after a complication-free pregnancy for mum, Chloe.

Chloe was unable to have medical intervention when the breech was discovered late into labour, resulting in a difficult birth and extended period of time without oxygen for Macie.

This has led to many medical issues including:

- Siezures (Epilepsy)

- Hypoxia related brain damage

- Cerebral palsy diagnoses, originally at level 4, but recently downgraded to level 2

- Horners syndrome, affecting her eyes and raising the potential of vision issues in the future

- Inability to swallow or suck, resulting in Macie relying on a feeding tube her whole life and recently having a permanent feeding tube (PEG) surgically placed into her stomach

- Recently beginning to lose some of her hearing

- A lack of immune system, resulting in Macie becoming sick with viral infections often.

Macie is a determined girl though!

Doctors initially told Chloe that Macie would never roll, crawl or walk, but Macie has pushed herself and exceeded those expectations! Macie can walk large distances with assistance (holding walls or couches) and small distances assistance free! She can climb foam blocks and the couch, play in the water pit with her brothers and sisters, read books and play with her toys!

WHAT IS A SMART PUP?

A smart pup is a specially trained assistance/service dog, that will offer an enormous impact on Macie's day-to-day life, including:

- Detecting Macies siezures up to 20 minutes before they occur - allowing Macies family time to move her to a safe space
- Aiding her with walking, through being a balance support and being her eyes and ears if her vision and hearing continue to deteriorate
- Being and emotional and social support as Macie lives her life with continuous hospital and doctor visits & tests and day-to-day hurdles.

Smart pups is a non-profit organisation who have already put a percentage of the cost towards Macies smart pup, but Macie and Chloe need to raise the remaining $20 000 for specialised training themselves.

2019 WALK FOR AUTISM

We have registered our company to take part in the walk for Autism 2019, between the 31st of March to the 7th of April!

We would love to see some of our HCSS community join our team and help us reach our goal of $1500 to go to the Autism Spectrum Australia!

For myself personally (Holly) both my brother and my best friend of 11 years have grown up with Autism and have grown into wonderful, amazing adults who both hold permananet jobs (One in hotel management and the other working as an admin at a doctors office) thanks to the amazing support of their families and other professionals!

Help us raise awareness of the struggles they face in their lifetime, and raise money to help out others on the spectrum!
